How do I resynchronize my Mac passwords after a Gatorlink password-change?

When Macs are joined to the UF Directory (so you can log in using your Gatorlink credentials) password changes sometimes cause the disk unlock password and login password to become out of sync. Your disk unlock password will still be your old Gatorlink password. This can be fixed, but it requires a local administrator account on the laptop. If you have one, do the following:

Login as your local administrator account.

Open the ‘Terminal’ application.

Enter the following command to remove your disk unlock enrollment (it’ll ask for your local admin’s password and replace [gatorlink] with your Gatorlink username): sudo fdesetup remove -user [gatorlink]

Enter the following command to add your disk unlock enrollment back (again, it’ll ask for your local admin’s password, replace [local admin username] and [gatorlink] as appropriate): sudo fdesetup add -user [local admin username] -usertoadd [gatorlink]

Close the application and shutdown the laptop to close the disk.

Power the laptop and test your login using your current Gatorlink username and password.
