What is a shared mailbox?

Shared mailboxes in Exchange allow a group of users to view and send email from a common mailbox… for instance, about-the-college@eng.ufl.edu.  This makes it easy for groups of users to read, reply, and send email from a common mailbox since everyone shares the same read and reply status.

Access to a shared mailbox is not through another username/password but instead is granted after signing in as an authorized user to a UF mailbox.
