What is the difference between appointments and meetings in Microsoft Outlook?

The UF Exchange and GatorMail environments at the University of Florida allow for three forms of activities on your calendar: appointments, events, and meetings. At UF these activities can be scheduled for or with you depending on permissions you give.

Appointments

An appointment is a scheduled block of time on your calendar that only involves you. The time is blocked out on your calendar but no other attendees or resources.

Events

Once an appointment goes beyond 24 hours it becomes an event. An event will not block out hours on your calendar. The calendar indicates an event by placing a banner at the top of the date on which it occurs.

Meetings

Once an appointment includes other attendees or resources it’ll become a meeting. At that point the time will be blocked out on the calendars of all people and resources (like a meeting room) in attendance, even yours.
